playence is a vendor of semantic solutions for corporate multimedia annotation and search. Our goal is to provide corporations more efficient annotation and access to multimedia assets by exploiting the semantics of information. As a result we are able to significantly reduce the costs associated with these tasks and improve the overall user experience.

General Summary

playence seeks Applied Scientists to join our international team and help us solve some of the toughest problems of the Web. Successful candidates hold a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, have a strong publication record, the ability to perform novel work and good programming skills.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the scientific output of playence by, collaborating in international research projects, elaborating white and research papers and attending conferences and workshops as required.
Lead the research and application of new concepts and technologies that improve playence's product offering.
Contribute to the conceptualization of a highly performing and scalable speech recognition engine.
Be proactive in solving problems.
Supervision of junior staff.

Experience/Skills

PhD in computer science or a related technical discipline (or equivalent).
Outstanding research curriculum.
A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
Extensive knowledge of the Internet/software industry and related technologies.
Familiarity with Semantic technology.
Demonstrated experience in systems design and implementation (Java).
Excellent knowledge of UNIX/Linux or Windows environments.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English – German and/or Spanish are a plus.
Working knowledge about EU research projects is a plus.
Willingness to relocate if needed, and to travel at least 15% of the time.

Work authorization required (candidate must have permanent authorization to work in the country in which the position is domiciled).
